      The Challenge

      This company wanted to develop its acquisition capabilities to pursue a buy-and-build strategy to grow its business. 

      The Solution

      We first defined the acquisition targets criteria and the value creation potential (i.e. which companies and why it makes sense to acquire them). Second, we identified and prioritized all the potential targets fitting the criteria. Third, we created valuations, financial models, and legal document templates. Finally, we helped the company to execute its first acquisition.

      The Result

      We focused this assignment on building the capabilities in-house, so that the company could perform the bulk of future acquisitions on their own. This approach helped the company to better understand the key aspects of assessing and executing value enhancing acquisitions, and to rely more on their own resources to do the heavy lifting of the acquisition work. External advisors are still required and used, but for specific expertise rather than the whole process, making the execution more cost effective.
